Stevens Park to get makeover

As the Morning Call reported last week, the city's park system is slated to receive a major facelift. Buried in the story: Stevens Park, the park just off 7th at Park and Tilghman, is set to receive some love:

Stevens Park is expected to get a new fence, playground equipment and landscaping. The basketball court will be expanded to a full court.

a facade's little sneak peak

part of what makes my job so much fun is the involvement in the facade process. Here is a new sign in progress - it will be backlit blue neon and really fun for the building it's going on...take a peak at a small video of what's to come by clicking on the play arrow on the below the image.

You're never too old...

to learn something new...I had a lesson today in the difference between a stromboli and a calzone...it's all in the cheese...who knew...needlesstosay...dinner was YUMMY and delivered piping hot from 7th street's newest eatery, Sweet Italian Pizza, 535 N 7th street, 610-740-3833!

Rodrigo Lopez has the pizzas flying...
Todd Collins, City of Allentown's new One Stop Shop Coordinator, performing the all important taste test... and Carmen Lopez is amazed that the pizza isn't the only thing that's cheesy at Sweet Italian Pizza...just look at my smile getting my slice!

I've strayed...

off of 7th street...I know...I know...people didn't think it could happen. But it was for a good cause...I was dying to try Lee's Gourmet Bistro (610-432-3354) and it was worth it...They are located at 33 N 9th between Linden and Hamilton!

The food was yummy and priced right! I highly suggest the Angus burger with cheddar...coffee is Seatle's Best...another great-quality establishment in our revitalizing downtown!

Talking Trash...receptacles that is

Something new in the works for 7th street are trash receptacles. In a continuation of the Seventh Street Development Committee and the city of Allentown's efforts to keep Allentown beautiful and litter free, new trash receptacles are being purchased for the business cooridor.
We are happy to announce that 7th street has received a grant from Waste Management and Keep America Beautiful. Additional funding has come from the 4 C's Neighborhood Association, Weed and Seed and the City of Allentown. Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski and manager of Allentown's Bureau of Recycling and Solid Waste Ann Saurman accepted a $5,000 grant check from Waste Management and Keep America Beautiful.
The receptacles that were selected are full-sized, in a historic black-emerald color that will fit into the new streetscape and have a look and feel of historic Allentown.

Old Allentown will also be purchasing 26 of these trash receptacles which is offer a continuity of design through our designated Elm and Main Street Communities.

Governor at Lo Baido's Tuesday

Gov. Rendell will be at Lo Baido’s, the adored (by me) Italian restaurant at 8th and Liberty, at 2pm on Tuesday to announce a $2 million grant. The grant will help pay for the mayor’s plan to buy up 40 blighted apartment buildings in the Old Allentown neighborhood, to de-convert, renovate, and sell to home-owners.
